Muhammad Qamarul Arifin Sa’adon, 23, is the first out of five men involved in the Anonymous vandalism case to be convicted in State Courts yesterday, reports Channel NewsAsia.
After pleading guilty to vandalising a pavement with the words ‘WE ARE ONE WE ARE LEGION EXPECT US!!’ followed by the ‘TSK’ logo outside Sunshine Plaza on Nov. 5 last year, Qamarul faces a sentence of two months’ jail and three strokes of the cane.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Wee Hao pressed for a jail term of two to three months coupled with caning, referring the act of vandalism to be “in support of (the) criminal act” by the hacktivist group and was “not an act of impulse”. Qamarul was also said to have played an “active” role in spraying the paint.
The four other persons involved in the case – Danial Ryan Salleh, 26, Mohamad Fadzly Aziz, 21, Muhammad Fitri Abu Kasim, 25 and Muhammad Redzwan Baskin, 27 – have yet to be convicted.
