Appearing on this year's notable Forbes list of Asian philanthropists are four Singapore businessmen: Mr. Chua Thian Poh, Goh Cheng Liang and Peter Lim, as well as Prof. Saw Swee Hock.
The list is made up of 48 distinguished members of society, including, aside from the Singaporean entries, Rakuten chairman and CEO Hiroshi Mikitani and AirAsia's group CEO Anthony Fernandes.
Mr. Chua Thian Poh is the chairman and CEO of Ho Bee Land, and is said to have donated at least $10 million to college-level education in Singapore since 2008.
Founder of Nippon Paint Mr. Goh Cheng Liang gave $40 million to the National Cancer Centre in Singapore in March via his namesake foundation.
Mr. Peter Lim, the new owner of Valencia Football Club, is said to have contributed at least $16 million to sports and education causes like scholarships in the last six years.
83-year-old Prof. Saw Swee Hock has over the last decade given more than $30 million to universities in Singapore, China, Hong Kong and the UK. He's an expert on population and statistics, and has "committed 'significant' funds in April toward the Say Swee Hock Southeast Asia Centre at the London School of Economics, where he earned his doctorate", Forbes wrote.
