NEA may use biocontrol to curb dengueThe National Environment Agency (NEA) is considering the introduction of biological control to reduce the Aedes mosquito population, following the launch of its Do the Mozzie Wipeout campaign yesterday.  This technology involves the use of Wolbachia-carrying male Aedes mosquitoes, which when mated with, produce eggs that do not hatch.  NEA says there's already a Dengue Expert Advisory Panel that's monitoring the use of Wolbachia, a naturally occurring bacterium found in more than 60 percent of insect species. In recent weeks, Singapore has seen a rise in the number of dengue cases, with a reported 7,000 affected in June 7. Photo: Stop Dengue Now Facebook
