About Do Good Friday: Making time for some give-back in the coming week, but don't know what to do? Break out of your usual TGIF 'eureka' moment every once in awhile to check what's buzzing in the local charity scene on our new series, launched May 2014.
The situation: Bonfire is a non-profit organisation steadfast in bridging differences through circus arts. This festival was launched in 2007 in partnership with Esplanade for Flipside (in conjunction with Singapore Arts Festival), and has travelled to Cambodia, India and Japan. The group is made up of artists from around the world, including Singapore's Jonathan Goh and US stars. Stay Calm, Knit and Make Clubs is the festival's side project, where volunteers hold workshops for local residents at community centres in Singapore, with the hope of advocating friendship and learning by engaging people in skill-based activities.
The activity: People of all shapes, sizes, ages and skill levels are encouraged to show up with the intent to learn (or teach) and create something new and fun. You will learn how to upcycle ordinary plastic bottles into juggling clubs, but why stop there when you can learn the science behind juggling. For those who knit or crochet, come together and share the techniques or teach those who yearn to turn a ball of yarn into something wearable. This gathering will be held at Kallang Community Club, 45 Boon Keng Road from June 7 (9:30am) to June 8 (6pm).
