About Do Good Friday: Making time for some give-back in the coming week, but don't know what to do? Break out of your usual TGIF 'eureka' moment every once in awhile to check what's buzzing in the local charity scene on our new series, launched May 2014.
The situation: The Ang Mo Kio - Thye Hua Kwan Hospital (AMK - THKH) is one of Singapore's community hotels that offer rehabilitative care to patients, so they may eventually achieve total independence. Patients may suffer a variery of medical conditions including diabetes, heart failure, hypertension and kidney failure, which make simple daily routines more complicated than usual. Each patient may be warded at the hospital for two to three weeks.
The activity: The AMK - THKH is looking for a couple more people to assist in cutting the hair of 80 of its beneficiaries. By maintaining neatly trimmed hair, the hospital hopes to boost patients' morale as they attend their therapy sessions. You'll need to have a basic amount of experience to help cut patients' hair (and there may be bedside cutting, FYI) , but if you don't and still want to help, you can volunteer as a hair grooming co-ordinator, whose job is to control 'traffic' in the designated grooming areas and possibly maneuvre some wheelchairs.
