MediaCorp fined $6,300 by MDA after DJ uses foul word on blind womanPhoto: From left: Joe Augustin and Glenn Ong at a video shoot for the 'Morning Express'; Facebook The Media Development Authority (MDA) announced yesterday that state broadcaster MediaCorp has been fined $6,300 after Class95FM's 'Morning Express' radio deejays Glenn Ong and Joe Augustin used the word "a-hole" several times while on air in March this year.  The duo had been discussing Cassandra Chiu, a visually-impaired woman who had taken to Facebook to voice her displeasure at being refused service at McDonald's on National Breakfast Day. According to The New Paper, in that incident on March 20, Augustin had called her an "a-hole" for complaining, and Ong had called his on-air partner an "a-hole" for giving Chiu that name.  The next day, Augustin used the same word again while conducting an on-air poll on the appropriateness of its use.  MediaCorp VP of English Programming, Radio, Georgina Chang, said in a response statement released for viewing by The Straits Times, "We absolutely do not condone the use of unacceptable language, and there is a strict internal process to address it." She also said that Augustin has recognised his "lapse in judgement" and "has apologised unreservedly on air".  The statement also includes a few lines by Joe Augustin himself, who promised he would do better in future.
