SPH editor-in-chief responds to anti-STOMP campaign, says site will be reviewedMarketing news platform Mumbrella said yesterday (April 24) that the Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) is conducting a review on STOMP, following a petition for the site to be shut down.  Editor-in-chief of SPH's English and Malay newspapers Patrick Daniel was said to have revealed this at the recent World Association of Newspapers conference in Hong Kong.  According to the report, Daniel admits the Change.org campaign, which at press time has amassed 23,219 signatures, has impacted the company, though he attributes much of its success to astro-turfing.  He told Mumbrella that the review will consider all aspects, including the fact that STOMP continues to have "a solid following of people who can live with a bit of edginess" and that the things the citizen journalism site is being accused of by the petition can also be said about "a dozen sites on the internet"."I'm not forcing everyone to read (STOMP). If you don't like it, go elsewhere. It's not as if STOMP is your only media diet. It's a website for people to engage with us, and that's what it is," he said. Daniel revealed that with all this in mind, he was working on what changes would be implemented on STOMP, which might be "heavier moderation of the site" or "stringent fact-checking".
