Iconic DC Comics superhero Batman celebrates his 75th birthday in 2014, and Singapore will see the Dark Knight commemorated in a series of events, exhibitions and product launches throughout the year.
Among the organisations and companies participating are Mount Faber Leisure Group, SingPost, the Singapore Philatelic Museum, DC Super Heroes Store, Movie Mania and Toonami.
The details were announced at a launch event held at The Highlander Bar & Restaurant on April 23, which was graced by Batman himself.
First up, from May 31, Singapore Cable Car cabins will be redecorated with a DC superhero theme as part of their “Fly With the Superheroes” campaign. Running until March 31 next year, visitors who ride the themed cable cars (priced at $29 for adults and $18 for children) will receive superhero masks and a souvenir booklet. There will also be an augmented reality in-cabin experience and photo opportunities with superhero statues.
On June 3, SingPost will launch a commemorative series of stamps featuring Batman and other Justice League members like Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern. A special bundle of the two-book set will be priced at $89.90 and will be available at all SingPost outlets and online. Collectors can register their interest at the 75 Years of Batman website.
From June 5 to Aug. 31, the Singapore Philatelic Museum will host The League Against Evil: A DC Super Heroes Exhibition, the first and only exhibition in Asia that commemorates Batman's 75th anniversary. Original comic artwork and loaned collections of superhero memorabilia will be on display.
Elsewhere, a fifth DC Comics Super Heroes store will be opened at Orchard Gateway this month and Batman 75th Anniversary merchandise is expected to be available in mid-May.
From May to July, Toonami (StarHub Channel 315) will be airing new DC programming including the new series Beware the Batman, which premieres on June 7 at 6:30pm.
Cosplayers will get to don their best Gotham gear at Movie Mania's Heroes and Villains of Gotham City event in December while the year-end will also see a hologram exhibition of Batmobiles arrive in town.
