![Pangdemonium production 'The Rise & Fall of Little Voice' opening in May]()
Hot on the heels of their last production Fat Pig, Pangdemonium returns with The Rise & Fall of Little Voice, running from May 2 — 18 at the Drama Centre Theatre.
Directed by Tracie Pang, the play stars Mina Kaye as Little Voice or LV, a shy but talented girl forced to live with her drunken, domineering mother, Mari (Denise Tan). LV mourns the death of her father and finds comfort in singing along to his old records. When questionable talent scout – and Mari's boyfriend – Ray Say (Adrian Pang) notices her talent, they see a mutually beneficial partnership. Ray Say could be LV's ticket to a better life; LV could make Ray Say big bucks. The stage is set for LV's debut at the Boo-gis Wonderland nightclub.
First performed in 1992, The Rise & Fall of Little Voice picked up the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 1993 and went on to be adapted into a film starring Brenda Blethyn, Jane Horrocks, Michael Caine and Ewan McGregor.
The setting will be adapted to 1970s Singapore – the first Pangdemonium production to be set in this era – during the heyday of cabarets.
The show is on at 8pm from Tuesdays to Saturdays, with additional 3pm performances on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are available from $30 through Sistic.
To bring Boo-gis Wonderland to life, two and four-seater cabaret tables along the stage will be also be available for patrons, priced at $270 and $550 respectively (including two glasses of champagne per person).
