A Singaporean couple are facing a total of 14 charges together for allegedly abusing their Indonesian domestic helper for nearly two years attempting to bribe her into keeping quiet about it all.

The alleged cases of abuse upon 33-year-old Fitriyah weren't trivial either — they sound downright dastardly. 38-year-old Tay Wee Kiat faces 12 charges of causing hurt, instigating his maid to lie to the police and bribing her as well, according to Channel NewsAsia

The list of things he allegedly carried out are as follows:

Hokkien mee stall owner

Local street food has a special place in every Singaporean's heart (and stomach). Running a stall is no easy feat, but we've come to a new appreciation for hawkers after watching this viral video by Tiger Beer

Titled 'Hokkien Mee', the nostalgia-tinged clip follows 73-year-old Chia Soon Kia as he goes about his day manning his fried Hokkien prawn mee stall at Havelock Road. From the moment he wakes at 4.30am till his shutters close for the day, he's hard at work.

The endearing uncle waxes lyrical about starting the business when he was a teenager, and shares wise words about living the simple life.

It's stories like these that make you realise there's just something about hawker food that no celebrity chef or Michelin-starred restaurant can ever compare to.

Just a couple more weeks to to the sixth season of Game of Thrones! With the show going beyond George R. R. Martin's last book in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, we won't know which beloved character of ours will horribly kick the bucket next — but hey, when you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die.

Death is of course one central theme in the whole series, and local designer Yu Sheng Teo recognises the fact. As such, he recently created a pretty fun way to recap the whole story from the past five season — a memory game to recall which character died first. Here's the link to the game.

Stunning sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, tropical climates and jungle waterfalls, the Fiji islands are probably one of the top places to decompress — and now residents in Singapore will have direct access to them for the holidays.

Fiji Airway's first direct flight from Changi Airport all the way to Fiji's Nadi International Airport will kick off tomorrow morning, getting passengers to and fro the country's archipelago of over 330 islands.

Fiji's national airline announced plans last year to commence twice weekly direct services to Singapore, a 10-hour flight on their A330 aircraft.

"This is a significant milestone for Changi Airport, with Fiji Airways’ new service bridging new direct links between Singapore and the South Pacific Islands," said Changi Airport Group CEO Lee Seow Hiang.

There's been a decrease in public carparks with free parking on Sundays

Carpark

The proportion of public carparks with free parking on Sunday has gone down, according to Senior Minister of State (National Development) Desmond Lee. In 2005 and 2010, it was 70 percent. Now it's fallen to about 55 percent.

Most of the public carpark spaces are managed by the Housing and Development Board, but others are operated by the likes of the Urban Redevelopment Authority and the National Parks Board.

As for the reason behind this decrease, Lee says it's because agencies have to keep the balance between the needs and parking demands of each area, TODAY reported. For example, in HDB carparks, where residents take up a higher percentage of the parking space.

A massive 2.6-terabyte of confidential documents titled the Panama Papers was recently leaked by law firm Mossack Fonseca to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.

What's the big hullaballoo then? Welp, it uncovers a mind-bogglingly massive global network of corruption and tax avoidance involving offshore funds hidden in the tax haven of Panama.

The world's rich and famous — including heads of governments, celebrities and other bigwigs — have had their names exposed in this pretty explosive reveal. Folks such as Russian president Vladimir Putin, Argentine footballer Lionel Messi, Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan, singer Tina Turner and many more have been called out in the Panama Papers — and there'll be more companies and people to be named soon.

Kok Heng Leun

The creative industry often gets blindsided in the Parliamentary side of things, only brought up and discussed in terms of achieving yardsticks and how it'll benefit the economy as a utilitarian fucntion.

The deeper aspects of art (having art for art's sake) have never been properly explored within the confines of the Parliament House, but newly minted Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) Kok Heng Leun proved that this won't be the case anymore. The theatre stalwart and artistic director of theatre company Drama Box made a passionate speech about the importance of the arts yesterday in his very first as NMP — and it's paramount that you pay attention.
