Singapore police have clarified that as of 10am on April 22, no permit application has been received for the 116th Philippine Independence Celebration, which is scheduled for June 8 at Ngee Ann City.
Neither have the event organisers shared any plans related to the event with the authorities.
In their statement, the police reminded all organisers of public events, local or foreign, that under the Public Order Act, a permit is generally required to hold any public assembly or conduct any public procession, regardless of the number of participants, if the purpose is to demonstrate support for or oppose the views or actions of any person, group or government, publicise a cause, or commemorate any event.
The Philippine Independence Celebration, which has recently become a hot topic of discussion amongst both locals and foreigners living in Singapore, is organised by the Philippine Independence Day Council Singapore (PIDS).
