Starhub has inked a partnership with electronics giant Samsung Electronics to produce its next-generation cable TV set-top boxes.
The first of three Samsung HD (high-definition) Interactive set-top boxes was unveiled yesterday and will be available to customers from April 15.
With a sleeker and slimmer design, the new set-top box features a search function and a new interface, which allows switching between channels faster and access to Video On Demand titles at four times the speed of current models.
Users can also pause or rewind 'live' TV and receive real-time traffic updates and access to SGX Finance. The box’s recording capabilities will be available via an external hard disk drive by June.
The two other set-top boxes will include an all-in-one box that enables features like multi-room recording and multi-screen capability, as well as one that is IP (Internet Protocol) TV-enabled."We recognise that today, TV viewing goes beyond just a passive lean-back experience. Users now demand a more responsive and intuitive user experience when they search for content.", Ms. Lin Shu Fen, head of Starhub's Entertainment & SmartLife, said.
