The Singapore - Kuala Lumpur high-speed rail link will likely run between the island’s western region or its city centre to Sungai Besi.
In a meeting between the countries' two leaders on Monday, Malaysia confirmed the location of its rail terminal, while Singapore will decide between the possible locations of the city centre, Jurong East or Tuas West within the next year.
While the city centre would make an ideal location because of the readily built-up infrastructure, factors like finding suitable space and the high costs involved could pose a problem.
Announced last year, the 330km rail link will cut travel time between Singapore and KL from six hours to a mere 90 minutes. It is targeted for completion by 2020.
