Like long queues for Hello Kitty, and debates about where to get good nasi lemak, locals tryna pull off fake accents (mostly American or British — Nigerian would just sound offensive) are a pretty prevalent phenomenon in the Little Red Dot.
Nothing wrong with accents really — especially if they're inculcated from years of growing up overseas. The thick accent of national sports hero Joseph Schooling for example is pretty authentic and can be attributed to his years of schooling (hur hur) in the United States.
