![You're not gonna believe how this tuition agency is marketing itself]()
A full-page advertisement by tuition agency Education Alive depicting a child precariously trapped under a four-tonne truck has been ordered to cease.
The order was given by the Advertising Standards Authority of Singapore (ASAS) after the ad, published in this month's edition of POP Club magazine by local bookshop chain Popular Bookstore, caused furore amongst parents over its graphic content — with some calling it inappropriate and morbid.
ASAS found the content of the ad to be "offensive to the standards of decency prevailing among those who are likely to be exposed to them”, which goes against the Singapore Code of Advertising Practice (SCAP).
Speaking to Today, Education Alive founder Sherina Koh, who was surprised at the reaction to the ad, defended her agency by explaining that the ad merely seeks to portray the gravity of how parents have the power to determine their child's destiny.
