The coming of Chinese New Year celebrations used to be akin to the apocalypse, in the manner that folks would have to stock up and hoard their foodstuffs and groceries. It's always been a period of time where practically all stores operated by the Chinese population will (usually) close shop for the first two days.
But worry no more, because these giant supermarket chains (no, not just Giant hypermarket) have you covered this year.
A spokesman for Sheng Siong told The New Paper that 16 outlets will remain open for the first two days of Chinese New Year from 8am to 6pm, a first for the supermarket chain. In addition, it will also extend operations on the eve of CNY by an hour until 4pm, following customers' feedback over the years.
