Here's a new reason to try your hand at winning a stuffed toy from a claw machine — to raise funds for charity. For Thye Hwa Kwan (THK) Moral Society, which debuted a one-week exhibition on its services at Junction 8 in Bishan this week, the two machines are an affordable method of fund-raising at the heartland mall.
The charity's chairman, Lee Kim Siang, explained that voluntary welfare organisations had to use 'innovative ways' to raise funds in this uncertain economy, as methods like putting on a TV show would likely cost about a million dollars.
In this case, donors covered the cost of the claw machines, and two THK staff were trained to maintain and repair them. THK bought 10 such machines from China for about $10,000.
