Newsflash: Airbnb hosts in Singapore aren't raking in big bucks. Quite the opposite, they make an average of $5,120 from guests who stay for about 45 nights in total each year. That comes up to only three or four days per month.

Airbnb's operations in Singapore are unique, as home rentals shorter than six months are considered illegal. So home-sharing businesses aren't as lucrative here as they are in other countries, where earnings each month can already hit the high end of four figures. The Urban Redevelopment Authority did a public consultation last year to discern whether it needed to review short-term rental rules for private housing, but released a statement this year saying more time was required to discuss the matter, as opinions were divided.
