Apparently, rail fares in Singapore are among the cheapest when measured against 35 major cities in Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. That’s according to a new study commissioned by our Public Transport Council (PTC) and done by private university UniSIM.
Singapore’s minimum rail fare of $0.77 was found to be higher than only those in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Taipei, whereas cities like Stockholm, Oslo and New York topped the chart.
Another survey, which compared the cost of travelling 10km by rail, saw Singapore rank sixth lowest with a fare of $1.33. The same three cities had cheaper fares – along with Beijing and Shanghai. On the other end of the spectrum, Stockholm and Oslo came in first and second respectively again, followed by Munich, Berlin and Amsterdam.
Plus, there’s the upcoming fare reduction of 4.2 percent on December 30.
