A minute of silence was observed on Sunday morning for Syed Mohamed Yusof, a Singaporean participant of the two-day Bintan Reebok Spartan Race that occurred over the weekend. The 37-year-old, who took part in the 21km race on Saturday, passed away after he was found unconscious.

Medical officials performed emergency resuscitation on him and an ambulance took him to RSUD Raja Ahmad Thabib Tanjungpinang, the local hospital in Bintan, where he was declared dead at 7.25pm due to cardiac arrest.

His family in Singapore was informed as soon as he was found unconscious, and organisers made arrangements for them to head to Bintan immediately. His body was conveyed back to Singapore yesterday.

More than 3,000 participants, mostly from Singapore, were registered for the races.
