The Active Mobility Bill was read for the first time in Parliament yesterday, and it held heavier actions against errant riders of Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) and the people who sell them.
Reckless riders would face a maximum fine of $5,000 and/or a jail term of up to six months. If they injure someone and dart off without giving assistance to the victim, they'll face a fine of up to $3,000 and/or imprisonment of one year.
Sellers who provide non-compliant e-bikes, e-scooters or other PMDs and mode them up will face a maximum fine of $5,000 and/or up to three months in jail.
The Bill also makes it official that PMDs are allowed on footpaths, cycling paths and shared paths. Only electric bicycles (and its traditional electric-free ancestor) are allowed on roads.
