WATCH: Chef of Michelin-starred Candlenut on his love-hate relationship with the restaurant

Starting a restaurant in Singapore isn't easy, much less establishing a here-to-stay presence — and to be honoured as a Michelin-starred name in the inaugural Singapore guide is even rarer. Chef-owner Malcolm Lee knows full well the sacrifices he's made since the inception of Candlenut in 2010 until this year, when he won his first Michelin star.

Explaining his love-hate relationship with the restaurant, Lee talks about his constant struggle between pushing on and giving up — even till this day. And one thing that's clearly still close to his heart is the loss of his relationship because of the restaurant.
