Masjid Yusof Ishak

Set to open its grand doors in the first quarter of 2017, the new mosque at Woodlands — named Masjid Yusok Ishak, after Singapore's first president— doesn't look at all like what you'd expect of a traditional place of worship for Muslims.

Construction work on the mosque is nearly complete, and pictures by the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore reveal a pretty stunning piece of architecture that shines like a beacon in the twilight. Said to blend traditional mosque characteristics, modern practicality and aesthetic influences of the Malay archipelago, the $15 million building along Woodlands Drive 17 will house 4,200 worshippers as a centre for the Muslim community in the north.
