Indonesia warns of haze heading towards Singapore due to change in wind direction

Haze

It's been a pretty great haze-free past couple of days but all good things must come to an end.

Indonesian authorities have warned that a change in wind direction could be pushing smoke from forest fires in Riau over to Singapore and Malaysia in the next couple of days.

Currently the fires are concentrated in a wide area in the western part of the province on Sumatra island, according to Indonesia's counterpart to the National Environmental Agency (NEA). They added that as the winds turn and blow eastwards, the smoke might head across the seas and hit their neighbours.

As the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) continues to put out the forest fires (exacerbated by dry weather conditions, sporadic rain and profiting pyromaniacs), they're confident that the haze and toxic smoke won't reach last year's extreme levels.
