Resorts World Sentosa is struggling. The casino, that is. With Chinese president Xi Jinping’s crackdown on corruption and the world’s second largest economy slowing down, fewer Chinese VIPs are arriving on our shores to gamble.

This, in turn, has affected RWS, which is letting go of about 400 employees (out of its 12,000-strong staff). Over the past couple weeks, 150 croupiers, 200 supervisors and 25 pit managers have been either voluntarily retrenched (with an offer of half a month’s salary for every year worked) or had their services terminated.

According to TODAY, one of the retrenchment letters said workers were “made redundant” due to the difficulties faced by casino businesses, and RWS had to make a “very difficult decision to reduce manpower”.
