In a major step forward for utilising clean energy, give props to SMRT for their plan to run their Bishan MRT Depot on renewable solar energy by the end of the year.
In a partnership with clean energy provider Sunseap Leasing Pte Ltd, the largest rail depot in the country will see a 1 MegaWatt-peak solar photovoltaic system installed on their rooftop. It'll allow SMRT to reduce their carbon footprint by 553 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually — and under the right conditions, will generate electricity that can power 270 four-room HDB flats for a year.
