$10,000 is a lot of money. Many would falter at the thought of getting that much for a bribe, but Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Chan Wai Hoong stuck to his guns and turned it down.
ASP Chan and his team of officers from Central Division had been carrying out enforcement operations at Middle Road on the afternoon of Apr 14, when they conducted a check on a 42-year-old woman.
Throughout the check, the woman repeatedly dangled an offer of $10,000 to ASP Chan in exchange for letting her go. The offers were promptly rejected and she was arrested for attempting to bribe a police officer and has been referred to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) for investigation. Aside from the bribery, she is also being investigated for suspected involvement in vice activities under the provisions of the Women's Charter.
