After news of the River Safari's Giant Panda Forest closing to give Jia Jia and Kai Kai privacy for their second attempt at baby-making, you've probably been wondering how they're doing. Well, it seems their mating session on Apr 13 wasn't successful, an apparently uncommon occurrence for young and inexperienced pandas. So a decision was made to conduct artificial insemination to help the naturally timid Jia Jia conceive.
But because giant pandas have delayed implantation during pregnancy, we won't know if Jia Jia's actually knocked up till sometime in September, when the vets and keepers can confirm the pregnancy through ultrasound scans.
