Hokkien mee stall owner

Local street food has a special place in every Singaporean's heart (and stomach). Running a stall is no easy feat, but we've come to a new appreciation for hawkers after watching this viral video by Tiger Beer

Titled 'Hokkien Mee', the nostalgia-tinged clip follows 73-year-old Chia Soon Kia as he goes about his day manning his fried Hokkien prawn mee stall at Havelock Road. From the moment he wakes at 4.30am till his shutters close for the day, he's hard at work.

The endearing uncle waxes lyrical about starting the business when he was a teenager, and shares wise words about living the simple life.

It's stories like these that make you realise there's just something about hawker food that no celebrity chef or Michelin-starred restaurant can ever compare to.
