As if teachers don't already get enough respect for their tireless — and often thankless — work, the Ministry of Education (MOE) sees it fit to start charging them for parking space in schools. That's right, in addition to the stresses of their students' grades, academic future, possible unruliness and a bevy of other things on their mind, teachers will have to add mandatory parking fees on their mind.
MOE's announcement that they'll be reviewing carpark charges for schools comes after the Auditor-General's (AG) disapproval last year of some educational institutions allowing their staff to park for free or at fees below market rate. Institutions such as the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic were fingered as the bad eggs.
