Nobody ever talks about sex workers here in Singapore with some maturity or insight. It doesn’t make it easier here, where the government's complex semi-legal stance and overwhelming societal aversion aren't making things easier for the issue to be discussed in the open. Because of this, there are many misconceptions about sex workers in Singapore. Different people have different opportunities, and meritocracy only works for privileged. For many sex workers, sex work may be the best opportunity available and like any other job, it comes with risks and unpredictability. Singapore-based Project X began in November 2008 by Wong Yock Leng, a social worker who saw that sex workers in Singapore are being marginalised and discriminated badly in society.
