A wholesaler landed himself in trouble again when he was caught possessing and selling his batch of duty-unpaid ang hoon — a Hokkien term for rolling tobacco. 46-year-old Ng Teck Beng has since been sentenced eight months in prison as well as a $1.01 million fine for the wholesaling of ang hoon without a valid licence as well as for storing the duty-unpaid tobacco.
A tip-off led the authorities to raid two units in Golden Mile Complex in April last year, where a total of 11,375 pouches, 51 slabs and three bags of duty-unpaid rollies were found. Ng — the sole proprietor of Wei Teck Distribution — was found to have used the premises to deal in the illegal products.
