A 39-year-old woman who has been living as an Indonesian man with two wives pleaded guilty today to sexually assaulting an underage girl, but because the case is unprecedented in Singapore, the judge decided to issue the sentence at a later date.
According to Channel NewsAsia Zunika Ahmad, 39, met the victim in 2011 when she moved into a flat a few units away from her, along with her two wives and a daughter. The consensual affair started a year later and lasted almost two years. "The abuse came to light in March 2014, when the girl made a police report after an argument with Zunika."
The victim only turned 16 years old — the age of consent in Singapore — this year.
Zunika's lawyer says her transgender client intends to undergo reassignment surgery after serving her sentence. The prosecutor, while acknowledging the unique nature of the case, asked for a jail sentence of eight years based on similar cases.
