Taxi SingaporeOn Tuesday the Land Transport Authority issued certificates of registration to Grab Taxi and Hailo and said it is still processing the applications of at least four more third-party taxi booking mobile apps — UberTAXI, MoobiTaxi, Karhoo, and ConnexTaxi. How does the certificate of registration benefit passengers who book a taxi using via third-party apps? 1. Both taxi and driver are operating legally in Singapore.  Taxi drivers are regulated under LTA’s Taxi Quality of Service and the Taxi Driver’s Vocational Licence regulatory frameworks.  2. Bidding and pre-tip tipping are not allowed. Once registered, these apps cannot allow bidding and pre-trip tipping for taxi services. In addition, booking fees charged by third-party taxi booking services cannot exceed the booking fees charged by taxi companies. 3. You won't need to specify your destination. There are concerns amongst commuters that some taxi drivers may avoid bookings to certain destinations. You are not required to specify your destination when making bookings. 4. You can indicate special needs. Registered third-party taxi booking services must allow commuters to indicate special needs (e.g. wheelchair or bulky luggage). 5. Operators are bound to provide you with customer support service Third-party taxi booking services will be required to provide basic customer support services, such as lost and found services and avenues for commuters to raise queries and complaints.
