Great news for all current and future National Servicemen — your fiscal allowance while serving the nation have been increased by $80 across the board, starting tomorrow.
No matter your rank (from recruit all the way to lieutenant), your vocation or your uniform (SAF, SPF or SCDF), your wallet's getting $80 thicker every month. It applies even if you've ORD-ed — Operationally Ready National Servicemen are also getting the pay raise. "The NS rank allowance, which supports our national servicemen in their basic personal upkeep, is reviewed periodically", MINDEF noted. The last time the allowances were raised was back in 2012, when the increase was only $60.
