Foo Leong Record StoreWe sure love our Spotify subscriptions and iTunes downloads, and obviously it's hurting the traditional brick-and-mortar music vendors.  Now you can see directly how one longtime music store owner is struggling to keep her shop open in the once-bustling district of Chinatown.  The matronly Wong has been in the music business for 40 years, selling CDs, vinyls and cassettes in Foo Leong Record Store. Back then, Foo Leong Record Store was the absolute shiznit — folks would crowd around her humble establishment to get their music fix while the hardened woman kept a strict eye on things.  With the dawn of the digital era, business has been rapidly declining at Foo Leong, but Wong refuses to hang up her guns. "I cannot bear to let go of this store, because I have painstakingly built this up over the years," she says in the irememberSG short. "I am over 70, but I will work for as long as I can."   (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Memory Makers: Foo Leong Record Store Mention Foo Leong Record Store at Chinatown Complex, and the enduring businesswoman figure of Mrs Wong comes to mind! Her customer Richard Kan says: “You had to wait your turn before the folks in the front row finished choosing or browsing their cassettes or CDs. It was sweaty at times. People who couldn't wait would try to get her attention and shout to her the latest album they wanted. The telephone in her shop would usually be ringing…” #sgmemory Posted by irememberSG on Sunday, 29 November 2015
