Troops from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will soon learn that all their trained skills of defending the country will be greatly put in practice when they get deployed en masse to be MRT breakdown marshals.
According to The Straits Times, the Defence Ministry have confirmed that in the event of a massive train breakdown, they will provide additional manpower resources from their side where necessary. Hey, it's not as if all our boys in green are outside fighting wars right? Might as well put them to work.
They've also assured that the soldiers will only be deployed as a last resort, only during large-scale disruptions like the one that transpired in early July.
The agreement between LTA and the SAF also pretty much confirms the fact that commuters should expect and accept these major train breakdowns as common occurrences. Here's to more public transport service disruptions for the months ahead.
