In Parliament yesterday, Minister for Foreign Affairs K Shanmugam delivered some grim news — one Singaporean woman was among those killed in the deadly bombing in Bangkok, while seven other Singaporeans were injured.
On Monday night, only chaos and destruction was left in the wake of an explosion set off in front of the popular Erawan shrine at the Rajaprasong area in central Bangkok. Among the 20 confirm deaths, seven were tourists — one Singaporean, two Chinese nationals, two Malaysians and two Hong Kong nationals.
The other eight have not been identified, comprising two men, five women, and one young girl. Meanwhile, the number of injured has risen to 125, says our colleagues at Coconuts Bangkok.

Shanmugam also strongly condemned the bombing, calling it a "tragic loss" and a "lifetime of grief" for a family due to "someone's evil action". "To all those who were injured, including the Singaporeans, we wish them speedy recovery," he said. "We also extend our deepest sympathies to the people and Government of Thailand, and the others who have been killed or injured. "
Singaporean ambassador Chua Siew San has been visiting the injured Singaporeans in the hospitals, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to render consular assistance to the affected Singaporeans.
Currently, a massive manhunt has been launched as Thai authorities confirm a yellow-shirted 'Backpack Man' as the prime suspect for the attack. CCTV footage showed that he was seen casually sitting down inside the fence of Erawan Shrine before freeing his bag from his shoulders and leaving it on the ground. After walking away from the shrine, looking at his mobile phone and carrying a plastic bag, the explosion occurred minutes later.
