Heroin in cabbagesWhatever will they think of next? Drug smugglers tried their hand in fusion cuisine and concealed their heroin inside cabbages, but alas, the authorities wised up to their act and crunched down hard on them yesterday.  Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers had been deployed early yesterday morning in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8, where they conducted a stakeout on a local suspected drug trafficker. It was around 5.45am that CNB officers spotted the 46-year-old man approaching a white Malaysia-registered lorry arriving at the location.  The man approached the left-side of the lorry and handed over a plastic bag to one of the lorry's passengers, who in turn passed him four plastic bags before separating. After tailing the man to a coffeeshop nearby, he was arrested with his plastic bags, which were found to contain eight cabbages. But nay, he was not shopping for some fresh greens from overseas — eight bundles of heroin weighing a total of 3.6kg were concealed within them. CNB did note that this was the first time they ever encountered such a method.  Around an hour later, the offending lorry was stopped at Woodlands Checkpoint and the three Malaysian suspects inside were arrested. $18,500 in cash was found hidden in a plastic bag behind the driver's seat.  Since they've trafficked more than 15g of heroin, they may very well face the death penalty under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Let's hope our cabbages are safe from more drug trafficking shenanigans.  Photos: CNB newsroom
