This 50-year-old Singaporean man got it all wrong — it's the employer who pays his staff money, not the other way around.
Lim Leong Chye is going to jail for 16 months and paying a fine of $35,000 for duping foreign workers.
According to the Ministry of Manpower, he collected money from 16 foreigners — ranging from $469 to $10,000 — as a condition of their employment.
He is said to have profited $97,550 in total.
Lim also obtained work passes for 11 foreign workers whom he failed to provide with jobs. Instead, he told them to find their own employment in Singapore.
A total of 39 charges were filed against Lim, who is the managing director of a Thai disco called Club De Colors on Middle Road, and manager of Club GMT.
Sim Chee Kiang, 33, his partner in crime and sole proprietor of Club GMT, will be charged separately for furnishing false information to obtain passes.
