Russia has been good to these two Singaporean swimmers.
Quah Zheng Wen, 18, broke the national record for the 100-metre backstroke event when he clocked a time of 54.40 seconds at the just-concluded Fina World Championships. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to qualify him for the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Singapore swimming poster boy Joseph Schooling broke his own Asian record in the men's 50 metre butterfly event with 23:25 seconds, shaving his previous record by 0:02 seconds which he set days earlier at the semi-finals. At last night's final, he placed seventh with France's Florent Manaudou completing in 22.97 seconds.
