In probably the worst place you can ever bring a weapon into, Hairulnizam Hanafi had a major lapse of judgement when he brought in a card knife with a 7cm-long blade into the State Courts on the morning of Mar 10.
For his ridiculously preventable folly, the 30-year-old man has since been jailed for three months yesterday, The Straits Times reports. He narrowly avoided a much serious charge under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act.
On the day of his offence, Hairulnizam had been accompanying his father — who had a court mention — to the State Courts. He placed his belongings in a basket for security clearance, and a Certis Cisco officer noticed a sharp object inside his wallet when it went through the X-ray machine.
In court yesterday, he pleaded guilty to an amended charge of unlawful possession of an offensive weapon. Previously he had been convicted for drug-related offences, theft, using criminal force on a public servant and having a scheduled weapon. Welp, looks like he's going back to jail again.
