remote controlA two-hour pay-TV disruption has cost Singtel a very hefty fine of $90,000 imposed by the Media Development Authority (MDA) when it affected the lives (and probably tore the fabric of their reality) of 11,000 subscribers back in February.  For two excruciating hours from 10pm onwards on Feb 3, affected Singtel subscribers were unable to boot up their set-top boxes or access on-demand content. According to the MDA, the cause of the service disruption was some kind of hardware failure. "Although SingNet had undertaken remedial actions following the incident to improve the detection system and response time, MDA notes that this is the second time in two years that SingNet has contravened the Quality of Service condition of its Nationwide Subscription Television Service Licence." And thus the pretty significant financial penalty of $90,000.  Photo: espensorvik via Flickr
