The wee, quiet hours of yesterday morning at Bedok North turned into a horrific scene of calamity when a 25-year-old man became a victim of a slashing incident, leaving a gruesome trail of blood in the neighbourhood.
The police were called in to the scene of the fight around 5.22am at Block 538 along Bedok North Street 3, The New Paper reports.
Witnesses speaking to the media mentioned that a fight had broken out at an open space near the hawker centre. Two men had been chatting near the premises when the assailant arrived and attacked one of them — known as Ridzwan — with a knife.
The victim stumbled into the hawker centre, dripping blood everywhere and yelled for help. A witness speaking to The Straits Times remarked that the gash in Ridzwan's palm was so extensive that the bone was exposed. His little finger was almost detached.
Sporting multiple deep cuts all over his left hand and arm, Ridzwan was then assisted by a friend, who took him upstairs to a neighbour, who called the police and tended to the badly wounded man. According to the neighbour, the assailant is part of a group of friends who live in the neighbourhood.
Ridzwan was later conveyed conscious to Changi General Hospital.
The 27-year-old suspect was arrested at 8pm yesterday. Reportedly, he was observed to be "a bit off" when he waved a bloodstained knife at a random teenager who happened to be nearby, before walking away with knife in hand.
