When you watch courtroom dramas on television you get the sense that in order to be a good lawyer, you need to have supreme grandstanding skills. Not in Singapore, apparently. No, no.
According to this Straits Times report, some judges have been dissapointed with the attitude and behaviour of some practitioners.
"Among the examples cited: lawyers threatening to appeal their cases if a decision goes against them, implying that judges should rethink a decision, and one lawyer who persisted in making arguments after the hearing was over."
Apparently, this missteps have been the talk of the industry the past few months.
To fix this problem, the Singapore Academy of Law has put up a study committee, supported by The Law Society.
It would be something like a finishing school for lawyers, so they will know how to conduct themselves ethically inside the courts. Errant lawyers will also be "confronted directly and candidly," says the report.
