Sympathy for SMRT: Netizens speak out in support of the workers because they're people tooIn the aftermath of the year's most notable SG50 commemoration — yesterday's simultaneous crippling of two main train lines — the overwhelming sentiment by the public can be described as "wrathful", "ticked off" and even "teetering close to madness", but not all feel the same way. Take for example Iris Lee, who recounted the story of her noble father, a maintenance personnel in SMRT who endured the condemnation and even apologised "at least 100 times to everyone who was trapped". Weep and feel ashamed of yourselves if you were one of the many who enacted fury upon the likes of him and his colleagues.    (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); We were having family dinner when my dad received notification that he is activated. Without further ado, he put down... Posted by Iris Lee on Tuesday, 7 July 2015 Then there was Twitter user @WApplecwxz, who reminded folks that even though some Muslim commuters had to delay breaking their fasts, it was even worse for SMRT technicians, who probably had a proper meal much, much later on.   My dad works under SMRT and yes his friends who are technicians were called down immediately. Some had to break fast late. So don't complain — Ms Benzoate ☮ (@WApplecwxz) July 7, 2015 Prominent Singaporean jazz pianist and all round local music icon Jeremy Monteiro even took the time to remind those raging against SMRT that we actually have it pretty good here.    (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); In Singapore, we are so blessed that we are spoiled. Three modern day examples.1) in the Philippines, a school... Posted by Jeremy Monteiro on Monday, 6 July 2015 @AdamFlinter agrees — he compared our train system with the London underground, and man we're glad that we're having less problems than them.   Just to give the #SMRT ragers something to chew on. In 2011, there were close to 2,000 service disruptions on the tube in London. — Adam Flinter (@AdamFlinter) July 7, 2015 @SYsquare comes to the defence of the SMRT officers who were only trying to help and do their job.   People who were cranky af at the SMRT officers need to reevaluate their logic. They're not the bloody reason for the power fault. Sit down. — might be sherilyn (@SYsquare) July 7, 2015 Surely there are many others who feel the same way as them — make your voices loud and clear!
