DSP KohThe Singapore Police Force recently brought to attention the heroics of an officer who rescued a trapped baby almost a year ago.  Off-duty officer and on-duty hero Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Koh Koon Beng came to a mother's assistance at a basement car park — she had been desperately trying to open the doors of an SUV for about 10 minutes to no avail, and there was no way to get to her baby trapped inside the vehicle. "He was screaming and crying and my only thought was to bring him out quickly," said DSP Koh of the 8-month-old child, who was strapped to a booster seat inside.  Left with no choice after finding every door locked, he decided to break in to the car to rescue the baby. Using a steering lock, DSP Koh broke the left rear window farthest from the baby, reached in and unlocked the door. Baby saved, yay.  Turns out that a mechanical fault in the car had led to the malfunction in the auto-lock, trapping the baby inside. The grateful mother expressed her gratitude to DSP Koh as well as his wife and children who were at the scene throughout the ordeal.  “I don’t think much of what I have done as anyone would do the same", he noted. "But as a police officer, we are on duty 24/7 and I am glad to have helped."  Happy story with a happy ending, sure — yet all the plaudits, commendations and rewards by the public seem to forget the efforts of everyday heroes like DSP Koh and his fellow Home Team colleagues.  Photos: Singapore Police Force   Done reading?
