The party's over, boys. We all know how difficult it is to keep track of and file expenses for reimbursement — but not if you have a trusty comptroller on your side!  During his term as financial controller of Singapore Technologies Marine from 2001 to 2007, Patrick Lee, 58, knowingly made false entries in petty cash vouchers to cover up corrupt payments amounting to $126,156. The company was paying off bribes to secure projects, with amounts of more than $5,000 split into a series of claims and filed as entertainment expense, according to The Straits Times. While Lee was aware of the scheme, he did not start it. His lawyer claims the illegal practice had been in place at ST Marine before Lee joined. Because of that mitigating circumstance — and his willingness to cooperate in the investigation — Lee narrowly escaped a jail term Instead, he will have to pay nearly twice the cost of his crime. The State Courts fined him a total of $210,000.
