This is why you have to protect your PIN every time you whip out your ATM card — a pub's staff made off with a customer's card to withdraw money for himself.
The victim of the unauthorised cash withdrawal made a police report on May 11 that someone had pilfered money from his bank account without his knowing. According to the police report, the man had used his ATM card to pay for a bill at a pub along Orchard Road, and the suspect managed to spot his PIN.
Under the pretence of processing the bill, the pub worker took the victim's ATM card and went off to a nearby ATM to make several withdrawals amounting to $6,000.
It took the police more than a month of investigations to arrest the suspect at Bedok on Wednesday afternoon. If convicted, he'll be imprisoned for up to three years and/or fined.
