Paper on fireThe man who was arrested and charged over the case of fiery loanshark harassment that saw the front door of two HDB units in Jurong set on fire has since been smacked with 26 more charges. 31-year-old Mohamed Ashyik Mohamed Shawal raised a proper uproar on the internet when reports emerged that he torched the house of an innocent person at Block 272 Toh Guan Road just to spite the debtor living one floor below. He was arrested two days after the incident, and was charged with setting fire to the flat, The Straits Times reports. The new charges meted out in court yesterday included more incidences of pyromanic loanshark harassment involving fire — he allegedly set fire to flats in Boon Lay Drive and Woodlands. He would also vandalise and draw graffiti on the wall using permanent marker pens as well as using bicycle chain locks to latch the main gates of nine units at various locations. Three charges also include Ashyik handing over his bank ATM cards to loansharks for them to use for their unlicensed moneylending business.  Bail of $80,000 was offered — the serial loanshark harasser will return to court on July 22.
